Hello Kent,
First -- thanks for the tip on mailto. I didn't have any idea about it. Do
you mean in an html version of the message?
I do have paper copies of the SCM, photocopies, which I used during the
years it took to compile the indexes, courtesy of the Clan Stewart Society
of America, and they are a right mess now, with notations on the side of
help find other references quickly. Sadly no, I don't have the magazine on
computer, just the indexes. I keep hinting to the CSSA to scan the series,
but it would of course be a monumental task.
Can I look anything up for you? Not however on your Archibald; there are a
lot of people out there looking for the link US-Ballymena-Scotland and I
have nothing new. What I do have is:
Archibald ANT 1802 s.? m.EstherLyle C31,36,96,175,E28
... and perhaps it's worth passing on that the reference on C96, which says
he was from Dumidoom, Clachan parish, is probably in actuality Drummedon
(C175), but neither name is in the Index of Townlands. The closest parish
that seems likely is Connor Parish, which is near Ballymena. There are
however two townlands named Drumadoon in Co. Antrim, one in Cary Parish near
Ballycastle (which I'd be tempted to check out first), and the other in
Kilconway Parish near Ballymoney. In any case it is quite likely that your
Archibald is a descendant of the Stewarts of Ballintoy, who came over from
the Isle of Bute long before the Ulster Plantation. The name Archibald was
carried on generation after generation, but this is way back in the
1500-1600s, and there are no sources for the late 18th c. or any time around
1802.
Regards,
Mary
