I am searching for information on the background and early life of George
Washington Stuart, my great grandfather. G.W. was a physician in PA before
the Civil War. During the war, he served as a doctor in the Union Army.
Sometime after the war, he moved to TN.

I recently ran across a reference to a Geo. W. Stuart who married a Phoebe
Varnes on Jan. 24, 1849. Both were listed as residents of Tuscarora, PA
(Juniata County). They were married by Dr. Mathew Allison, Pastor of the
Mifflintown and Lost Creek, PA Presbyterian Congregation.

I would like to know if this particular individual might be the George
Washington Stuart I am looking for.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
