Hello. I wonder if Finny might be a nickname for Finley? There is an
important family in North Carolina starting with a Finley Stewart; there
were a number of family reunions for his descendants held during the years
when the Stewart Clan magazine was published (1922-1970), starting in 1954
and continuing at least until 1964, organized by Mrs Z.V. Conyers (Dorothy
Stewart) in Alamance, NC. Another important descendant was Mark Stewart, 108
South Park drive, Greensboro NC (in 1964).

References to Finley in the Stewart Clan magazine:

Finley Stewart was born 13 Mar 1730 and marr. Prudence Shaw in 1763. He is
said to have come from Pennsylvania and to have been a son of James and
Janet (Shaw) Stewart of Killyleagh parish, Co. Down, Ireland. He fought in
the Revolution in Col. James Martin's regiment of NC militia. He settled on
a plantation six miles north of Greensboro, Guilford county, NC. A
descendant, John N. Stewart of Mooresville, Iredell county, had Finley
Stewart's bible, which had many family records in it. Finley d. 13 Feb 1809,
aged 78, and Prudence d. 28 Feb 1821, aged 78. They are buried in the
Alamance churchyard not far from Greensboro. Children all born in Guilford
county.
