Hi Robert,

I'd like to know your sources for Alexander STEWART appearing in Plainfield,
CT 1728 and Lt. William STEWART migrating from Westerly RI to Stonington, CT
abt 1699.

I have an Alexander STEWART b abt 1680 poss. Ballymena, Antrim, Ire. first
showing being admitted with wife Margaret (DIXON/DICKSON) STEWART to First
Cong. Church in New London, New London, CT 1720 and bapt. youngest son,
Samuel, said to be born "on the high seas" Children for Alexander and
Margaret are:
Alexander b c. 1700 poss. Ballymena m 1726 Margaret ROBINSON d 1732 East
Haddam, CT
John b abt 1702 poss. Bally. m 1725 Elizabeth ___; d Sept 18 1791, age 88
Margaret b (?) m 16 July 1724 Thomas HUNGERFORD, East Haddam
William b abt 1706 (?) m (1) 2 Feb 1732 Hannah CAMPBELL; d 17 Jan 1800,
94th yr.
*Thomas b abt 1710 poss. Bally. m 27 Jan 1736 Ann ROGERS, Voluntown (dau
of (2) wife of Thomas's f, Alexander, Janet(Jennet) ROGERS wid of Wm. ROGERS
James b (?) m 1737, Keziah SCOVILLE; d 1781 New Milford
Samuel bpt. 24 July 1720; m 1741 Elizabeth KENNEDY; d 17 Nov 1784
Voluntown
Nathaniel bpt. 20 Dec 1724; m (?) Experience ____; resided in
Voluntown 1746

The above is from the STEWART CLAN MAGAZINE Sept, 1929, Vol. VIII, No. 3

I, also, have Lt. William STEWARD/STEWART b abt 1690 poss. Linlithgow, W.
Lothian, Scot. first showing bapt. as an adult 1710 in Stonington, CT. First
Cong. Church and m Sarah CHURCH 1713 (same church)

I don't have the STEWART CLAN MAG pages in front of me on William, but
there's quite a bit of speculation about him - "he knew his ancestry back to
the mother of Oliver Cromwell, Elizabeth STEWARD/STEWART". Also, he "knew
his ancestors back to Kings". In his will he left provisions for a grave
stone for his son (I believe Lemuel-died young) and 1st wife, Sarah, (he m
(2) ? BELLOWS) and father. This shows he prob came to US with father (don't
know name poss. William but heard it might be James?). Also, spec. that he
(or father) was involved with land in RI, and
Oliver Cromwell was going to remove to RI if things got bad for him in Eng.
Oliver became ill and died, so can't connect them from him removing to RI.
I'm descended from William through son, Oliver Cromwell STEWARD/STEWARTm
Rebecca PENDLETON and their dau Sarah STEWARD/STEWART m Elias STEWART, son of
Thomas and Anne ROGERS, son of Alexander. SCM says that
Sarah and Elias were cousins (haven't figured that one out yet). They
removed to Clarendon, VT in 1779.

My STEWART line continues down to my mother. Does any of this sound
familiar?

Hoping to hear more about your lines and sources........Janet Ross
