My grandmother Pearle (Steinke) Daugherty is here visiting and she has a
couple of letters in her possession, I thought I would share in case anyone
can use them.

March 18, 1974

Dear Pearle,

Sorry to be so long in getting a letter off to you. My mother, Mrs. Henry
Steinke lives with us for the past two years as she has not been well enough
to live alone. These past 3 weeks she has not been good. The Dr. says she
has an enlarged heart which is very tired. We are so thankful that her mind
is still good. As we get older it seems more important to know about our
families. My mother does not know about Julius Steinke's mother, so we cannot
help you. Your letter arrived at a time when I was waiting to hear from one
of my uncles. The widower of one of my dad's sisters. It seemed I remembered
she had kept a record of the family. When I did hear he sent only the names
of my dads brothers and sisters, dates of their birth, and when they died.
Their family never kept in close contact and I don't know who my cousins are.
My dad came from a large family and many of his brothers did not live close by
and in those days we did not travel hundreds of miles. There is only one
sister left, so I plan on writing her to see if she can give me more
information on our own family. If you haven't already written to her, then I
would suggest you get in touch with her. She was the youngest, so may not
know what you are asking about, but I do hope so. Write to: Mrs. Helen
Rinderknecht, 2205 1/2 Johnson Ave., Northwest Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52405. Good
Luck! Sincerely, Ruth (Steinke) Haydon....3007 Thrush Lane, Rolling Meadows,
