Surname:
-------------------------

Claude SOWERS, 52, Lucas [Kansas] resident, died in the Ellsworth [Kansas]
hospital of injuries received when Marvin TREFETHEN, a friend, ran over
SOWERS while searching for the man in his motor car. The accident happened
at Lucas, in northeastern Russell county, after SOWERS reportedly became
ill and wandered from a friend's house at night. According to Ted STEINLE,
Russell county sheriff, TREFETHAN became worried about SOWERS when the
latter disappeared. The night was dark and a heavy mist was falling when
TREFETHEN began driving looking for his friend. SOWERS apparently fell
in the road and TREFETHEN did not see him until wheels of his car bumped
over him, causing fatal injuries. The Russell sheriff announced his investigation
showed the accident was unavoidable.
[notes.... Claude SOWERS died April 4, 1947. the surname, TREFETHEN/TREFETHAN
is spelled both ways in the article. This story was cut out of an unknown
newspaper]
