George SOWERS was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, May 17, 1830,
died April 18, 1896, aged 66 years and 11 months. He came to Illinois in
1854 and was married to Williamina SPANGLER July 31st, 1856. To them were
born eleven children, ten of whom with their mother survive: William the
eldest lives in Kansas, Samuel and Maggie, in Nebraska, while Charlie,
John, Dillie, James, Belle, Nellie and Ralph are at home with their mother
and all grown to manhood and womanhood. Mr. SOWERS united with the M.E.
Church in Pennsylvania, when nineteen years old, and about 11 years ago
he joined the Presbyterian church at Fountain Green. He lived an honest
upright life and died in the triumphs of a Living God. He suffered with
cancer of the stomach, and for a few weeks prior to his death his sufferings
were intense. He gave his family and neighbors a loving farewell, filled
with counsel to meet him by and by .... The funeral was held at the home
beneath the spreading shade of trees which had been his special comfort,
on Sunday, conducted by Rev. HEDDING, of Ferris, Ill.....
