Subject: [SOWERS-L] Seeking Info on Henry C. Sowers
Date: Sat, 11 Dec 1999 18:29:03 -0500

Dear Everyone.
One of my maternal ancestors was a Sowers. I am in need of ANY
information on this man and his family.
Henry C. Sowers was born 1 March 1822 in Brownsville, Pa. In 1823 his
family moved to Ohio: Zanesville area (Muskingum Co, Perry Co, Morgan
Co). On 27 July 1843, he married Martha Jane Harper (David Butts JP or
minister) in Muskingum Co. In 1854 he moved to Coles Co Ill, staying
there until 1865 when he moved to Fort Scott Kansas, 1865-1866 at
Lawrence Ks, 1866-1870 Salt Creek near Leavenworth Ks, 1870 on in
Atchison Ks. He died 3 August 1911 in Atchison Ks and is buried there.
Children were Sarah Ann, John E.(Edward?), David W., Hannah C., Benjamin
F., Henry C., Amos W., James Bradley, Mary, Alvin and a child that died
in infancy.
There is a Michael Sowers who lived in Brownsville Pa. He was born in
Hagerstown Md 16 October 1762 and died in Brownsville 16 October 1853.
Census records for Henry C. indicate parents born in Md. Is Michael a
relative (uncle?)?
We have found a number of Sowers in the Zanesville area but have yet
to find relationships. The individuals were John, Edward, Joshua,
George, William, Bazel (maybe Basil), Aquilla, Commodore, Benjamin,
Daniel, Elizabeth, Mary, Hiram. Time period early 1800's.
I am interested in finding brothers, sisters, parents, etc. of Henry
C. Also descendant information on family of Henry C.
I am also interested in Martha Jane Harper. On the application for
marriage it states that her father was present and consented to the
marriage because she was younger than 18. No name was given for the
parent only that he was present.
I would be glad to exchange information with all of you.
Looking foward to any help that you can give me.
We have the ability to travel to sites in our motorhome and can
research info on Sowers if we are in an area.
Thanks, Connie B.
