Hi Leith,
Well, I copied this birth certificate at the FHC, but unless your dad had
the very first successful sex change operation, this one is not him. Here it
is:
LDS Microfilm #1926385
Cape Province Birth Certificates 1895
Item 2: Matatiele
Entry #12
Father: Charles John WARD, Englishman, 40, Chief Constable, born Kent,
England
Mother: Sarah Ann GIBSON, Mixed Race, 40, Pound mistress, born Natal
Child: Ada Charlotte Matilda
Born: 7/12/1895
Date of Marriage: 8/6/1879
Other Children (Him): 3 sons, 1 daughter (living)
(Her): 4 sons, 4 daughters (living)
Residence: Village of Matatiele
Witness: Charles John WARD
I probably have more WARDs on my databases, but if I try to search on it, I
get every Edward, Howard, Woodward, Heyward, etc. However, this was the only
1895 birth certificate. If he was born anywhere besides Cape Province, I
would not have it. If he was born somewhere in Cape Province, I may still
find it as I haven't ordered all of the films yet.
Regards,
Ellen Stanton
