Hello: coming rather belatedly after pc problems to the RITSON
discussion - I realise that it is recent and current SA RITSONS
you seek but you may be interested to know that I've just come
across the RITSON surname in Cumberland. There was a RITSON's
Wharf at Maryport and one of my BELL ancestors was apprenticed to
a Mr RITSON. A maritime occupation probably.
So you may be looking at Cumberland origins back in the early
19th century.

PS Have lots but always wanting more on BELL as in Captain
William BELL, master of the schooner "Conch" which participated
in raising the siege of the British garrison at Natal in 1842
(after Dick King's famous ride) and later Port Captain at Natal
(died 1869). Particularly keen to find further details of his
earlier career in the Cape as captain of coasting and other
vessels, besides the Conch (had some super info from the prolific
Nolene Lossau - grateful thanks again, Nolene). Everyone can
