The Africa Star was for service in North Africa during WW II, so it
would not have been shown on a cigarette card issued in 1941. My father
and my father-in-law both got it, and the letter from the Government to
my father-in-law notifying him of the award (with the 8th Army Clasp) is
dated November 1945 (a cyclostyled form filled in in blue-black ink with
a steel-nibbed pen, by the look of it). I don't know what happened to
my father's, it was not among my mother's effects when she died in 2002,
but it could easily have disappeared during her residence at an old
folks' home for the last few years of her life. She was so forgetful by
then that the opportunities for losing it would have been legion.
