Hi
More on the Rorke's Drift debate. I forwarded Rosemary's concerns to Barry Marshall whose reply (in part) is appended below. His
revelations of the proposed Zulu memorial is good news - the more people who have an interest in a site, surely the better its
chances of surviving.
Best wishes
Eileen
Barry's e-mail:
I have received a few complaints from a "Group of Tour - Guides", who apparently believe that the Shiyane / Rorke's Drift
Interpretative Centre needs upgrading. Our opinion is that the centre compares very favourably with similar centres in South Africa
and abroad. It is , in fact , well maintained and provides comprehensive information on the battle. We are , at present , allocating
any surplus funds which we have available for the site , to the provision of a memorial to the Zulu dead. I'm sure you will agree
that this is long overdue. (125 years). We hope to unveil this memorial in January next year.
With regards
Barry Marshall
