Desiree

If you have family that lived in South West Africa and they lived there
for any length of time you might want to explore the Namibian Archiwes
for further info. The germans where very punctually in their
documentation. I have done some research there for the POTTAS family
tree and for someone who's grand father was involved in WW1, the info
she got helped a lot as it were military documents and included even a
physical description of her great grand father.

Here are the contact info for the archives in Windhoek:

Hi Pat, just an interest? I was told that on my grandfathers estate
file,
his parents are noted as living in S.West Africa. Someone remarked that
the
father could have been one of the rebels of the boers?? Now I read
your
comment beneath and wonder if there is any details of NAUDE owning
anything
in York ? Being that the NAUDE's were from Germany (originally from
France
before being banished - Edict of Nantes) Do you know much about these
wars ?
Or these places at those times ? I did read about he war in around
1902
where many rebels fled to Graaff-Reinet at the time. I am trying so
deperately to find my grandfathers family that I am looking at every
option.
I do not have access to many books and the libraries here do not have
much
of S.A. history that it makes it really difficult to do my own
look-ups. I
found that there were two JOSTS who came to Africa originally, one was
a
Jacob and arrived in 1857 with the British Kaffrarian Legion, now I
found
that there was one born in 1846??? - Does not gel. Something is wrong
with
this picture. I know that the LDS records are not always correct as
sometimes persons submit their data thinking it is correct.

Can you extend any thoughts here?
D
