In search of George Frederick MARTIN, born app. 1849, died between 1889 and 1896.
My great grandfather (G. F. MARTIN, trader and hunter ) just seems to appear in Rhodesia in 1870. He married the "famous" 1820 Settler John Montgomery's granddaughter, Maria Park MONTGOMERY. George also had a sister Claudie, who married a brother of Maria Park Montgomery. The Martin's are mentioned in several books about Rhodesia as well as in the diaries of the Jesuits.
One story is that G. F. Martin's family came from Penzance, Cornwall, in 1820 and were shipwrights. Another story is that he originated from the Channel Island of Jersey. A certain Mr. Leslie R. Logan (also related) of Rhodesia, started research on the Martin family around 1973 for the Woman's Institute of Marula, Rhodesia. I have not been able to trace his research thus far.
Other families related to G. F. Martin are: COLEMAN, LOGAN, MOODIE and LEONARD.
I would be thankful for any information on the subject, or of/from friends and relations who can be of assistance!
