I think that Vince is likely correct, but:
According to de Villiers / Pama, b1 Jacob married 28.11.1762 Martha van Aarde,
remarried 7.1.1786 Sara Catharina Erasmus. There are no children from the
first marriage, 11 from the second.
I could not find anything on Martha in deV/P or SA Genealogies.
Have you looked at the Hansie Brummer GEDCOM? It contains some additional
details. For example,
b1 Jacob + 23 June 1851 Graaff-Reinet
b1 c1 Jacob + 1847
NAAIRS is down right now, so I could not look for Death Notices for these two.
Brummer also gives two more children, the last born in 1814. Jacob sr. would
have been 76 years old at that stage.
Is it not possible that deV/P has confused two generations, that Jacob(1) x
Martha van Aarde, they had a son Jacob(2) x Sara Erasmus?
(I think you can get the Brummer GEDCOM from the GISA site.)

You are speculating J.A.S. VAN STRAATEN's mother's name to be Maria
Elizabeth, well D1 Johanna Elizabeth Maria probably has her mother's full
names, which (I know it is a stretch) contains the names Maria Elizabeth.
Strangely not one of the three sons listed was named after J.A.S. VAN
STRAATEN. I suspect a child is missing between Maria Elizabeth#5230 and
Cornelius Abram#5231 and his name may have been Jacobus Abraham Stephanus.
He would have carried both the names of his father, J.A.S. VAN STRAATEN and
the grandfather. He may have died shortly after birth.
In Pama D1 Johanna Elizabeth Maria's father was Jacob Abraham VAN STRAATEN,
so J.A.S. VAN STRAATEN could have been the son D2.
Now I just need proof,
