Hello Ann
I think the problem could be that you copied all the files from the actual
programme itself. One cannot do this in a Windows operating system
environment. You will need to reload the full programme from the original CD
and then copy the files that end with the extension FTW back into your data
folder. Or if you backed up the files then use the ones with the FBK
extension. When FTM installs as a programme it copies certain files into the
Windows folder and some others to help it operate. If you only copy the FTW
folder you are leaving some of the files behind. I may be misunderstanding
your request, if so let me know and we'll see what we can do to help.
Kind regards
Tessa King

Subject: [ZA] Family History Programmes
You are always such a helpful bunch that I'm hoping someone can help me
on a technical rather than family history issue.
I have had some major changes in my life recently, and copied all my
family history files onto disks, thinking that all would be safe. Now I
am set up with a new pc etc, and tried to reload the (Family Tree Maker)
FTW programme that I had been using, from diskettes I had copied. No
matter what, I cannot get them to load, and suspect that my new pc is a
much higher version and thus won't accept what I was using previously.
So I downloaded the (Personal Ancestral File) PAF programme from the
internet. Now I can't get it to "read" my FTW data files. I really
don't want to start from scratch inputting all the data. Can anyone
suggest how best to go about accessing this information? I am more than
happy to try any other (preferably free) downloadable programme that
anyone might suggest.
I am now living in Alicedale, the smallest little dorp that you can
imagine, with not a bank, ATM or filling station in site. But I do
intend recording all the graves in the graveyards one of these fine days
when I am not so busy.. Once I have driven the cows out of the cemetry!
Thanks in anticipation, as they say!
Regards
Ann
