Dear Christo Andre and Keith
Members of this list include non-Afrikaans speakers who are researching
their ancestors. It would only be polite to translate the information,
and maybe people do not like you posting in Afrikaans is because they do
not understand. Although Conrad may not have said postings should only
be in English, it reaches more people if it is in English. There is
nothing that says that it must be in English or Afrikaans, perhaps one
should just post in whatever language one wishes and to hell if not
everyone understands. I do not think that it is very nice to make
comments about a group you belong to, in a language not everyone
understands. And do not say that there is the South-African Immigrants
list, I have DELPORT, FOURIE, SMAL, FRIES amongst others in my family
tree, and they were not immigrants. Because my maternal side of the
family spoke Afrikaans to me, even after not speaking or reading it in
almost 30 years, from the age of 14, I can still understand a lot.
However my children are unable to speak or read Afrikaans, and there
would be others in that situation where a parent never taught a child
born overseas Afrikaans.

Hi André
Like you, I am enjoying the benefit of belonging to both

Laasgenoemde poslys word gekenmerk deur 'n totale afwesigheid
van taalvooroordeel en -onverdraagsaamheid.
It was reported that GenForum's membership increased by an
impressive 50% during the past three weeks....
Sulke statistiek sê vir mens iets.

Christo
