Dear Lorna,
Oh! Dear! you are quite right, Amelia's maiden surname was SISLEY, in
my earlier research I had transcripts done of Joseph Joshua's Death
Notice and on both occasions these came with the name SISBY, I then
had the benefit of Violet Wagner's assistance in England and received
photocopies of Amelia's and Stephen's marriage registration in 1812,
and the birth registration of Joseph Joshua,1819, with the correct
spelling of SISLEY, I had not updated my database with this new
information until now.
What is your connection to the WILKINSON's other than your project ?
Regards,
Bernie.

your interest in the WILKINSON family. As you mentioned, a branch
settled at Houwhoek hence my interest in them- the early development
of the Elgin district is one of my research projects. My information
on this family is limited so am not sure if it will be of any help.

Would this be the correct version of her surname? I have only found
her as SISLEY or CISLEY. She appears as SISLEY on her son Joseph
Josua's D/N (MOOC 6/9/288 ref 12). The other instance of the surname
comes from the baptism records of the Somerset West DR Church. It
reads more or less as follows:-
> Magdalena Johanna b. 16 August 1845, =11.11.1845, daughter of Joseph
Josua WILKENSON (Houwhoek) and Magdalena VAN AS. The witnesses were
William TURNER, Amelia CISLEY (sic), Paul Lodewyk AVENANT and
Wilhelmina Sara VAN AS. Some of the surnames mentioned appear in H&L's
genealogies.

Josua WILKINSON and Magdalena Johanna VAN AS) still live in the Elgin
area. Yvonne Robertson and her intrepid team of gravehoppers recorded
most of the burials in the district and kindly made them available to
me.
