I would imagine they travelled via Durban.
Does anyone know when rail lines connecting the major South African cities
were completed? I think the first rail connection to the coast was actually
via Lourenco Marques, now Maputo, in Mozambique.
Best wishes

Can anyone suggest where passengers from the Johannesburg area would be
likely to board a boat for passage to England in 1908, and return to S.A. in
approx. 6 weeks. Would they travel as far as Cape Town or was there a port
closer to their home.
