Hi there

Are you Debbie Griffin from Jozy's, Butch and Glenda's family? You must
remember the du Plessis family. My Mom Gloria, recently deceased, sister
Wendy married to Steve Hodges, Colin, Owen, Gavin, my brothers and of
course, me Vivien, now Kymdell. I have been researching Griffin for Glenda,
now in USA and unfortunately I don't keep a record of what I send her, but I
have her e-mail address, if you're interested.

Take care

Viv Kymdell

Subject: [ZA] GRIFFIN SEARCH

Hi,
I am looking for anyone who might have a direct connection to
Charles Henry GRIFFIN - apart from his wife and the NEFDTs line, which I
have linked up to. His second wife was Violet MM Bushby.
Charles Henry GRIFFIN - b 27 October 1889, married his first wife, Rachel
Elizabeth NEFDT, then married his second wife 05 October 1933 – Death
certificate No. 2864/55 71916 j- Pumpfitter, Ship’s plumber; storekeeper at
“Robin Outfitters in 88B Jorissen Street, Braamfontein.
There is a A railway clerk, with the same name: Charles Henry GRIFFIN in the
Civil Service List 1890-1895 – the Cape of Good hope Railways (Midlands
Service ) as a clerk earning £120 p.a. (Info from Railway Archives) but I
don't know if there is a connection. According to family members Charles
Henry GRIFFIN was possibly born in Ceres in the Cape. He was in the
Kimberley Royal Light Infantry in 1st world War and was a mounted soldier.
His father was possibly a stationmaster somewhere in the CAPE.
His mother died around 1937
His father died around 1910
Their children were a girl, then Olive, then Violet, then a girl, a girl and
then Charles Henry Griffin.
Charles Henry’s Mother remarried to a 2nd husband surname RUSSELL who had a
brother or someone who conduced at the Albert Hall in London.
The above information was provided to my late mother Valerie Frieda GRIFFIN
via Violet M.M. Bushby who stayed in Risidale at the time.
Any takers out there?
Regards
Deborah.

Hello Allan,

The Royal Navy, apparently, once stored munitions on property now owned by,
I think, Kynochs and I am told that the Navy also billetted men in the
Umbogintwini village. Umbogintwini is approximately 30kms south of Durban
and a number of employees at the local explosives factory live in
Umbogintwini.

I do not know where records are archived but you might have some luck if
you contact the factory on 031 904 1500.

Regards,

Pat Smith
