Hallo Elizabeth

I have a fairly extensive database of Mc Donalds in South Africa but do not
have a James who came from Isle of Skye and settled in South Africa. I do
however have a large family of Mc Donalds who lived in Grahamstown and later
in Queenstown. The First one to settle there was Donald Mc Donald from
Inverness in Scotland.

Of the family names you mentioned, Roderick was the least common name in
South Africa and I have four Rodericks in the database - again all four from
Scotland but none from Isle of Skye specifically.

I also have a James Mc Donald who was born in Kirkhill, Inverness and joined
the army and came to South Africa about 1840

Please give me a bit more detail and a bit more time and I will look at it
again

Kind regards

on the family of James McDonald, born about 1760, on the Isle of Skye, to
parents James McDonald and Margaret MacLeod of Cnocowe. He was pressed into
joining the Royal Navy. I am not sure if James emigrated to South Africa or
perhaps some of his children. He was my 3xGt. Grandfather's brother. An
elder brother, Alexander was killed at St. Kitts while serving with the
army.

descendants lived in South Africa. I think perhaps Grahamstown.
