Hello,
I am a recent subscriber to this list and I am searching for information on the family of James McDonald, born about 1760, on the Isle of Skye, to parents James McDonald and Margaret MacLeod of Cnocowe. He was pressed into joining the Royal Navy. I am not sure if James emigrated to South Africa or perhaps some of his children. He was my 3xGt. Grandfather's brother. An elder brother, Alexander was killed at St. Kitts while serving with the army.
An article written by Donald J. MacDonald of Castleton, which appeared in the 1981 edition of the Clan Donald magazine stated that James McDonald's descendants lived in South Africa. I think perhaps Grahamstown.
Family names were Alan, James, Roderick, Anne, Flora and Margaret.
Any assistance appreciated,
Elizabeth
