How could I find out about my grandfather Jacob Christiaan Smiltnieks(changed later to Smiltneek)(1878-1958) who immigrated to S Africa arriving approx 1899(I was told) from Latvia.
I want to know how to obtain his birth certificate from Latvia hopefully to find full names etc of his parents.
The info I have is:
Father:Jekob 1839-1900
Mother: Lebe ? 1843-1915

I would really like to find out more of their family.
Any advice anyone?
