Subject: [ZA] Somerset West registers - Bernie's request.

Dear Listers, I have been trying to obtain info from the films of the
above birth and marriage registers, only to find they end in 1860. Does
anybody know why Somerset West records stop at 1860? I can understand why
they only start in 1820 when they seceeded from Stellenbosch, but they stop
in 1860, then there are no more records for approx 35 years and then the
marriage ones start again. Do you think the records have just been lost or
is there another reason? Can some seasoned S.A. researcher give me an
answer? (I admit I have been spoiled by the wonderful records available in
the U.K. so find this very frustrating.)
As you can see, Bernie, I have been unable to find the Cramer/Wilkinson
marriage you wanted. So sorry - I thought the dates were inclusive until I
viewed the film!
