I do not know if the following works on a Mac but, since Yahoo Groups
reset their servers and defaulted all persons who are listed with them
(if you receive messages from a Yahoo server, you are listed) to receive
SPAM and permission for them to sell your email address, I have been
inundated with viruses, SPAM and sex mail.

On another newsgroup I came across talk of a small program called
"MailWasher" that allows the user to check what mail they have on their
ISP's server, before downloading it with their mail program. Those
emails containing viruses and all the SPAM can then be "bounced" back to
the senders ISP as if your email address does not exist. I have been
using it for about two months and now my SPAM mail is about half of what
it was previously.

The other side of the story is, if you are a Yahoo Groups user, go to
your profile page on Yahoo and in the marketing section, "un-tick" all
the ticked boxes to stop Yahoo from selling your email address.

Those interested in MailWasher can go to their site
http://www.mailwasher.net and read all about the program - it's written
by some fellow in NZ and is free.

I have not posted to the list for absolutely ages, but am being
bombarded with SPAM and viruses, etc. Yesterday I downloaded 27 emails,
of which 25 were unsolicited.... Please can you help... I need some
advise on how to stop this, short of changing my email address! I know
that there are some who are familiar with Macintosh computers.

Joan
