Hello Heidi
There is a short biography of him, with several useful references, in
D. Nash's "Bailie's Party of 1820 Settlers". She states that when
he died in 1837, he left a widow and five children. Four of these are
known to have been:
Mary, b. 1819; Margaret, b. 1826; John, b. 1831; Louisa, b. 1833.
His lands in the Cuylerville district were known as "Clover Valley".
In 1986, we had a letter from a Miss Helen Lawler, in which she
showed her descent from John. Her father, Kenneth Hayes Lawler
was born in 1917, at Cofimvaba, Transkei.
with best wishes
William
