HI John
To my surprise I came across the surname OLIPHANT in one of the lists in "The South Africa 1853 Medal" by G R EVERSON. I can't remember which regiment but it was NOT the
Cape Mounted Rifles which did recruit locally, it was one of the units from the British Isles.
