Can any historian please help me out.
I came across the above name when I was researching the Castelyn family and noticed the name of Sir Anthony OLIPHANT in the early 1800's.
He was the Attorney General, but with a name like that I could not imagine it to be English.
Could anybody enlighten me as to the origin of this family and maybe direct me to where I can read up on the history during his tenure as Attorney General.
Looking up the archives electronically I found a few OLIPHANT'S that had committed crimes such as housebreaking and theft. I have not checked their relationship though.
Many thanks
