Subject: HERBERT BELL b. 1879
Hi List: I have recently received photocopies of
the "Record of Conduct and Service" of Herbert
BELL for the South African Constabulary, dated 6
May, 1901. The record indicates his residence as
67 Emily Street, H(K)eighley, Yorkshire. His next
of kin is "Mrs. L. Bell" and his occupation is
reported to be "Engineer". All in English.
A second set of photocopies was also received in
the name of "H.W. Bell" (not the same gentleman as
above). This 2nd set of papers are all written in
Afrikaans with the exception of one page in
English. It is a certification of a diagnosis of
syphilis of the aforementioned H.W. Bell, and
dated 9th August, 1899.
These papers were obtained from the Free State
Provincial Archives, Free State Province in
Bloemfontein, SA. I was hoping they were my
ancestors, but are not, and if anyone recognizes
the names and particulars, they are welcome to
these papers at no cost.
