Derek,

My father was named Herbert after their neighbours whose surname was
Herbert. This was in Port Elizabeth in 1932. All Mr & Mrs Herbert's sons (I
think there were three) had gone to war and had been killed so my
grandfather had promised them that he would name one of his sons Herbert. I
don't know if my dad has any other info about them.There are several Herbert
names in the East London directory - would you like their phone numbers or
just addresses
