Hi Pat
In answer to your first question -- according to the instructions I got with
my disks, to order documents, all you need are the following references:
Depot, Source, Volume No & Reference No, and if there is more than one part
to the documents, which Part.
As to the second question, I think the Reference No would be most
appropriate, because if the document is a Death Notice, this is its number.
Perhaps you should also mention the Depot.
I recently engaged the services of a genealogist, Cecilia Hawkins, to look
up documents for me at the Cape Archives, with very satisfying results. I
have previously posted her contact details to the List --
She transcribed the relevant info & emailed the results to me. As much of
the material was typescripts & not original documents, I didn't go to the
trouble of getting photocopies made. Apparently many of the files are bound
& quite fragile, so perhaps it isn't a good idea to subject them to the
stresses of being photocopied, unless they are real handwritten originals
with an ancestor's signature, etc.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Maureen Brady
