I would like to share information about the James White family of Grahamstown. 1820 settler.
two daughters - Elizabeth Thrale White and Mary White . 2 sons Alfred and Charles
Elizabeth married John Bradfield of Fort Armstrong
Mary (astonishing woman) married Thomas Jenkins missionary in Pondoland with Faku.
Although of no blood tie, James and Jane White adopted the orphaned baby Lydia Frances Brown who later married Alexander Menzies McGillewie at Fort Beaufort.
I got the above information from someone's published family tree. Just the information on one photocopied page was sent to me and the query and later reference to Charles Brown merchant of Queenstown who died at the home of Lydia McGillewie in Queenstown.
I would like to acknowledge the source in the history I am writing of the Brown/McGillewie/Vickers families
I have a letter from Mary Jenkins to Lydia and James White's will
Happy to share, but I do need that source.
Pat
