I think you already have the answer, but here is mine:

School grades in South Africa were (are?), beginning in the year a child was
five years of age:
Grade 1, Grade 2, Standard 1 ... Standard 5, all at a "primary" school (seven
years).

Standard 6 ... Standard 10, at a high school (another five years).

At some high schools (like Jeppe, where I went), Standards 6 - 10 were called
Forms 1 - 5. To be really upper-class, number the Forms with Roman numerals.

and
Left 1880 Forms II and III
What ages would the boys be in those forms?
Calculating on the usual method of Year 1 to year 12 (From age 5 to 16 years
age) where would these forms fit in?
