In my book "Women of South Africa 1913" there is a page entitled "Short
History of the Guild of Loyal Women of South Africa" The Federal Secretary
is K Kemp. and a quick browse through shows that this Guild was founded
"February 24th 1900 by a few ladies both Dutch and English who met at the
house of Mrs John van der Byl of Newlands"
It's aims were to "inculcate and foster a patriotic South African
Nationalism..."
Their main filed of work at this time was to care for the graves of men who
fell in the war.
The had an art scholarship, and in Rhodesia and South Africa established
children's libraries, established District Nurses in all provinces, the
Rhodesian members rescued graves of pioneers. the Guild was disbanded in
1911.
I know this isn't quite what was asked. But it is interesting I think.
