A while ago you sent me some info from the SA Genealogies v4., who is the

Subject: ... German Settler immigrants
The story of the German immigrants to the eastern Cape in about 1858 is told
in ELG Schnell's "For Men Must Work".
Earlier German immigrants are in J. Hoge's "Personalia of the Germans at the
Cape", now a fairly rare book.
Germans were among the earliest "free" burgers, including Casper Brinckman
(1658). Among my own ancestors I can find Kruger, van Eyssen, Smalberger
and,
of course, Meintjes.
Best wishes
Keith

Dear Tanya
The article I posted refers to the first German settler immigrants - folk
who were brought out as part of an emigration scheme (similiar to the 1820
British Settlers scheme).
There were other Germans at the Cape prior to this, but they were mostly
employed by the VOC (such as the 2 you mention) or arrived as individual
immigrants.
