Hi dawn
Many thanks for responding to my MOODIE Settler/ TOLMAY enquiry and for the
details as to the whereabouts of the MOODIE records. I had noticed that a
number of the entries in the book "British Residents at the Cape 1795 -
1819" specifically mentioned MS next to the name to denote that the person
was a Moodie Settler - this helped my assumption that a complete list was
available somewhere and I was hoping that the list gave more details ie age,
occupation and where the person was from.
The above book gives the following references for James TOLMAY:
1817 - Arrived at the Cape - A Study in Pioneering by Edmund H Burrows
30/3/1818 - PR 2113, under indenture to Moodie - Cape Archives CO6055/2
Is there anyone going to the Cape Archives in the near future who would be
willing to look up the reference CO6055/2 for me? I would be happy to try
and reciprocate in Johannesburg - I am at the JHB LDS every second week.
Unfortunately the Drosty Museum will have to wait until I can get to the
Cape!
best rgds
