Hi Rob
The info you can get from the Stairs data, I have found to be invaluable. Apart from being able to get Mortgage Bonds, Wills Deceased Estates. Anything that has been registered, the other day I ordered one where a horse had been stolen, another flour which had been shipped to Mauritius, from it you can trace where they were at a particular time.. To me it makes the person real not just a name and date on a grave stone.
I don't know about the other Archives, at the Cape Archives you can send them a particular document number , they will tell you how many pages it consists of and they will send you a micro-film negative at R1.00 per negative, this you have developed at you local film development center and you have a copy of the document. If you can't get to one of the Archives, this method I have found is great.
Regards
Margaret Humphries
