I tried both Aldus Photostyler and Microsoft Photo Editor before I realised
that a good programme without high skills is not the solution. I also
realised that the volume of work that I have certainly did not justify
learning this kind of skill. I ain't got the time. I then took a very badly
torn photograph to Hirt and Carter in Cape Town who did a wonderful
restoration job on it and saved it on CD with other photos.
I keep on making the same mistake over and over. 30 years ago I tied my own
flies until the penny dropped. What I wanted to do was fish and not indulge
in something therapeutic such as tying flies or knitting. My Corel Draw
programme managed to get about 5 hours attention before I filed it in dark
drawer.

Hi All Researchers,

Can anyone provide advice or recommend a good software program, reasonably
priced and available in South Africa, to do old photo touch-ups? I have
recently purchased an HP scanner but have not had much success with the
software it came with.

Dear Mark and Everyone Else,

There are computer programs available to photographers where they are able
to enhance details, improve resolution, and erase blemishes on old black
and white photos. I was successful in accessing these processes on a very
damaged negative. It was costly, but well worth it. The process works well
on prints although best using the negatives. My negatives were from 1898
and on glass! Check around with professional photographers who might have
upgraded their processes with these programs.
Good Luck!
