In the 1950's "T&DB" was a colliery near Witbank, Tvl. I went to school with
children who came by company bus.

The spelling is most likely Vereeniging (means Union). The most notorious
colliery in that area is (was) Coalbrook, where hundreds of miners died in a
disaster in the early sixties.

As I recall.

Hello list,

Can anyone provide me with some background history and location details for
the following couple of SA collieries. I would particularly like to know
sinking and closure dates etc and which companies operated them. Any
information would be most welcome;

a.. Transvaal & Delegoa Bay Collieries
b.. Cornelia Colliery, Vereenicinc (spelling ??) Estates Ltd.
I have just unearthed a early "montage" photo. depicting the named portraits
(60 in total) of all of the management and supervisory team at the Cornelia
pit in c.1905-10. This may be of interest to some, especially if they have
family ties with this colliery.

Thanks in anticipation,

Mark Smith.
