Hi Listers,
I visited the Cape Archives today and was informed by the director that they
are well aware of the activities of Mr Swaen. They have actually been
investigating the matter. He submits that he obtained these documents (more
than 100) from a dealer in SA, who has conveniently passed away. About 12
years ago a burglar removed some documents ? The value for a commercial
collecter is about the seal of the VOC which appears on the documents. The
content is of no concern to these collectors. Perhaps Mr Swaen can be
approached to at least supply copies or scanned images of these most
valuable documents?

Africa, the amount of money that is being asked for each document distresses
me, since obviously there would be a market for Cape Archival material. The
implications is rather grim.
