Hi Uri, It seems that the places you are referring to are from the Eastern
Cape.
1. BAVIAANSRIVIER. River N. of the town of Bedford.
2. COWIE. Refers to the Kowie River which flows through Port Alfred. Port
Alfred itself is also known as "The Kowie" to locals.
3. JORHA. This possibly is a corruption of the word Gorah. There are two
references to Gorah in the Eastern Cape. Both are associated with the names
of farms but also have been used to refer to particular areas.(i) A farm
Gorah now forms part of the Addo Elephant National Park, and (ii) is
situated approximately 6km N. of Kenton on Sea on the Grahamstown road.
All three names have connotations with the 1820 Settlers and early visitors
to this part of the Republic.
If you feel that this is where your interest lies and would like to know
more please let me know.
Regards, Ted
