Dear Conrod
I am sorry to say that my knowledge of South Africa is very limited, so
please bear with me.
I also am a fan of Mitchner = seems we have similar interests .
My family connectiion to South Africa is through my grandfather,
Alexander Comrie b.1873, Blairgowrie, Perth, Scotland. He immigrated
to
the USA about 1899 sent for his love, back home in Scotland, married
and
lived his life in the NYC area.
As small children he spoke to us (his grandchildren) in a foreign
language he learned while in South Africa. I suppose the only phrase
we
all can speak at this time is to tell each other to close the door.
I am in possesion of a certificate of membership in the St. John's
Ambulance Association issued
September, 1896 issued at the Transvaal Centre made out in my
grandfather's name.
I am trying to map out in chronological order my grandfather's life.
There is no one left of my father's generation that has any reliable
knowledge. Possibly he was in South Africa during the Jameson Raid.
If you could direct me in locating any information I would be most
appreciative
Ships records, employment records, etc.,
would be of interest to me.
Thank you,
Catherine Comrie Madigan
