Hi Ruth in West Australia. Thanks for the info on various Sydney Wheelers,
trouble is these are other individuals. My gt-uncle Sydney is in the 1881
census in Whitsbury, Hampshire as Sydney Carter, but the family tradition has
him using the Wheeler (his name at birth) later in life - but there's a good
chance that he was known as Sydney Carter (OK, it doesn't help if I don't
know who I'm looking for!). Anyway, it's what happened to him in SA (Natal
Rifles etc) that fascinates us, so if anyone has any idea how to progress
(Sydney Wheeler (or Carter) in the Natal Rifles for instance) I'd be very
grateful.
