Hi all,
I paid my R25 and sent my 3.5 " diskette (mustn't say
stiffy) and I now have every State Archive reference to
GERICKE. If anybody would like me to search this file for a
key word I will do so gladly. I don't expect to be killed
in the rush as nobody else appears to be actively
researching GERICKE.
A text file can readily be searched once opened in say WORD
but the search procedure is not very sophisticated. I have
a family given name which is spelled GELEHAM or GIELJAM or
GIELEHAM or GIDEON ! Try making up a search template that
will catch all those !
If anybody would like copies of the GERICKE text file to
start a central repository where all those who have obtained
the files for their areas of interest can chip in I will
happily start the ball rolling. I predict however that that
pretty soon somebody will have to provide a custom file
reader to emulate the file writer that was used to produce
these files. This will have to be complemented by a more
sophisticated search module that would be able to search on
multiple parameters. Of course if you want that kind of
search you first need a multiple parameter indexing module.
A module to send the search results to a file would also be
nice. All of a sudden a nice and simple cooperative
proposal has the potential for going into competition with
Bill Gates.
Any comments ?
PS.
Please try to avoid quoting nearly the whole of the digest
when replying to an item. Good form requires that one only
quotes what is essential to create understanding.
Regards,
Erol.
