Dear Peter and others

Here is an outline of info. gleaned from Daphne Child's book 'Hougham
and William Hudson and their descendants', particularly relating to
George Hudson:

Hougham, the 1820 Settler, and his wife Elizabeth Ann Walker had
twelve children, of which six survived ... one being Geogre, born 22
May 1837 in Grahamstown, died 28 July 1900. He married on 4 Jan
1865, Jessie Elizabeth Smith, daughter of William Smith of Port
Elizabeth (this William Smith was not William Bensted Smith of
Grahamstown - my comment).

George and Jessie's children were:
1. Marion ('May) born 1866, died 1960, married Selwyn Scot Brown in
Kimberley - two boys and two girls
2. George Wreford (called Wreford) born 18 Oct 1867 in Port Elizabeth
(PE), died about 1911 Johannesburg, married circa 1896 Anna de
Villiers - 3 sons and 1 daughter
3. Jessie Mildred born 19 Jun 1869 PE, married 19 Apr 1892 Dirk Elise
Vreede - three girls and a boy
4. William Tyrell born 1872 Port Alfred, died 26 Jan 1951, married
Constance Hilda Fitts (Australian) in 1907 - girl and boy
5. Herbert Wood (my comment - maybe this is Bertie?), born 1874
Grahamstown, married Marion Esther Davis 1 Jul 1901 - two boys and
two girls
6. Vivienne Florence, born 1876 Mossel Bay, married John Stanley
Bolton in 1906 - boy and girl
7. Enid Maud, born 1878 Grahamstown, married Oct 1914 in England
Charles John French. She married 2 Capt Kenneth Harvey Preston - no
children by either marriage

I assume that you would be interested in the children of William
Tyrell and Constance Fitts ...
1. Jessie born 28 May 1909, died about 1935, not married
2. Duane Tyrrel born 11 Aug 1910, married 1938/9 Ariadna
Proskurnikov, a Russian ballerina - annulled after a year and he did
not marry again. Duane had a very full life and inherited the farm
'Muden' which you mentioned, Peter. William Tyrrel also farmed here
at some time.

Does this help? There is a wealth of interesting detail on the lives
of these Hudsons and if you're interested, you should really try and
get a copy of the book. Come back to me at my e-mail address if I
can help you further. (My own interest in the Hudsons is through the
marriage of Hougham (junior), brother of George above, to the Currie
and Carlisle families.

Regards ... Dave
