Johann and Rosalia Schmidt arrived in Cape Town from Konigsgnade, Prussia,
in 1860. They had six children. Johan, Martin and Anton, and three
daughters who were not named in official records at the time. One of the
daughters was my great grandmother, Bertha Schmidt, who was first married to
a Walsh. After he died she married Warren Walter Williams, who was with
the British Police in South Africa.
Anton died at four, Martin at nineteen. Johan died at thirty-nine. I
would like to know the names of the other daughters, who they married , and
more about Johan and any of his decendents. Does anyone know how I can
trace the family history in Prussia. I am also trying to find out more
about Warren Walter Williams. He was also based on St. Helena for a while
where he and Bertha had a daughter who died soon after birth. Their other
children were George and Arthur (my grandfather). Warren Walter was born
in England but we have been unable to find any record of his birth. He was
born about 1860 and died in 1898. My daughter, Beth Blake and I would
appreciate any help we can get as we are doing a family tree and have
reached a dead end.

Many thanks,

Cecilia Hawkins
