Hi folks,
I'm confused now. I swear there have been people on this list who have
told me that I could view microfilmed copies of death notices at the LDS. I
haven't tried ordering any as yet, so far I've had good luck finding someone
to do some look-ups for me. I was at my local LDS just a week ago and
browsed through the catalog while I was waiting for a microfilm reader to
become available. I got as far as "Cape Archives - Probate Records" which
was further subdivided up by years. Then I was told the reader was available
and I abandoned the catalog. I haven't tried asking my LDS librarian about
it. I got into a discussion with one of the librarians last year and he had
never even heard of the country called South Africa.....
So, if the answer is no, there are no death notices available, then what
are these probate records? Are they only the indexes? Are they available for
all the archives?
If it is definitive that death notices aren't available, then is anyone
out there willing to do some look-ups for me at the Cape Archives and the
Free State Archives? I have reference numbers already.
