Dear Listers
I have received a letter from a cousin in England who would like me to find
out as much as I can about his forebears, in particular the cox connection.
I am aware that there have been a few messages on this subject, so would
appreciate any help.
He writes:
"My mother's father, ARCHIBALD THOMAS COX, was born on the Isle of Wight in
1883 and married in South Africa to FLORA GERTRUDE BING. My mother, DOROTHY
ELEANOR COX, was born in either Grahamstown or Port Elizabeth on 31 August
1909. In her baptismal certificate, dated 6/10/09, their address is given
as 10 Pearson Street, Port Elizabeth. Later they lived in Grahamstown, and
Archibald COX died in East London in 1946.
I know little of Flora Gertrude, but believe that her parents were WILLIAM
BING and LAURA SCHALLER, so I would be grateful for any information you can
find about her, and about her ancestors, both male and female in South
Africa, including dates and places of births, marriages and deaths."
If anyone knows of information to add to the above, or has connections to
this family, I would be most grateful.
Sincerely,
Grant Nurden
