Bravo, Coen! My sentiments exactly. To paraphrase the Freedom Charter, the
List belongs to all who use it. We must recognise that we're a motley crew &
reflect many different opinions about religion & politics, & come from many
different "tribes".

But the debate on legislation is useful, if it helps us to clarify our
thinking.

Here are some notions, which may influence the way we participate in our
list.

It is a known fact that throughout the ages wars have been waged primarily
in the name of Ethnic Groups or Religious Groups. Usually both. Today it
happens to be Serbia/Albania/Kosova.Sometimes like in the USA it is perhaps
more that a diverse people have a clear idea of what their territorial
boundaries are. However, whatever FLAG these Groups fly it seems to entitle
them to murder, rape, dispossess or degrade anyone in the name of their own
flag.Tragically this human trait has been so vividly demonstrated in our own
situation. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission feels that it is OK to
let off Benzien because he committed those evil deeds in the name of a FLAG!
and is honest about what he did.

The quickest way to get our list members at each other's throats would be to
punt Ethnicity or Race or Religion. Our list is not the venue for politics.
The inference from some of our list members that our current Government may
not be as good or better than the previous Government is certainly not
welcome. There are a lot of us on the list who feel that for the first time
we have a Government that we need not be ashamed of. If you have political
opinions, which differ, please voice them on some other list. This list is
not intended as a forum for disenchanted Émigrés or Homeland Aficionados or
a focus on Current Affairs in the RSA. The list is about Genealogy and not
the Boere Oorlog. Die Wit Kraai is dood.

Anne, I wholeheartedly agree with your viewpoint. This bunch are becoming
as power crazy as the previous incumbents and are intent on legislating the
