Hello Everyone,
I didn't have any responses to my first message posted to the list so
I''ll try again.
My maternal grandfather James CRITCHLOW went to South Africa from England
as a boy with his parents and presumably any siblings he had. His parents
were James and Marian CRITCHLOW. His mother died in 1885 aged 50. I have a
small photo of the headstone which shows that 3 other people were also
interred there. They all had the surname of JAMIESON . There was a 2 year
old in 1892 daughter of J and A JAMIESON, an AMY MARIAN JAMIESON 7/5/1930
aged 42 years and ALICE JAMIESON 17/6/1931 aged 70 years.
My grandfather was married in Cape Town on 8th April 1897 or 1898. He came
to live pemanently in Victoria, Australia about 1900.
I understand that his father James CRITCHLOW returned to England when his
wife died. I am almost sure that the Alice JAMIESON on the headstone was a
sister of my grandfather and that he had a brother as well who may have
settled in South Africa.
If there is anyone who can help me with this family, any small scrap of
information, I would be very grateful !
In hope !
Sincerely
Hilary Alexander
